ICALLD SYMPOSIUM 2026

Symposium theme: Beyond Survival: Agency, Advocacy and Impact in Learning Development

The ICALLD Symposium Over Time 2026 invites colleagues to look beyond survival narratives to explore questions of agency, advocacy, and impact in Learning Development. We welcome proposals that centre our successes, trace the scope and impact of diverse third-space professional journeys, and examine how Learning Developers shape, influence, and communicate their value within complex institutional ecosystems.

This symposium offers a space to reflect collectively on Learning Development as purposeful, relational, and influential practice, and to share the ways in which we exercise agency and create impact – even and especially in challenging times.

Please review the submission information below.

Submission Information

We invite colleagues to submit a proposal based on one of the following three provocations:

  1. Good News Stories:

Inviting accounts of initiatives, collaborations, pedagogies, or moments where Learning Development has made a clear, positive difference to students, staff, institutions, or communities. Successes worth celebrating, however small or large.

  1. Third-space Professional Journeys

A space to share how your professional journey has informed and shaped your Learning Development practice. For example: how has your path into Learning Development shaped the opportunities for practice you now have, and/or how did your path shape the ways in which you use these opportunities?

  1. Third-space Advocacy

Encouraging reflections on how we navigate, shape, and influence the ‘third space’, including advocacy strategies, boundary-spanning roles, leadership practices, and ways we communicate our value within complex institutional ecosystems.

We welcome proposals across the following submission types:

  • Presentation: 15 mins  + 10 mins Q&A
  • Interactive workshop: 40 mins
