March 4-8 is National Procrastination Week.
With generous support from the Learning Specialists Association of Canada (LSAC), staff from Writing Centres, Libraries, Accessible Learning Centres, and Learning Commons across Canada have worked together since 2021 to offer a week of online workshops and connection to support students and increase our shared awareness and understanding of procrastination.
Procrastination Awareness Week (PAW) brings together some of the most popular and effective workshops from academic institutions across Canada. In addition to both live and pre-recorded workshops, PAW includes a virtual study hall, resource library, and opportunities to socialize with students from across all participating institutions.
The goals of PAW include:
- Increasing awareness about procrastination (what it is, how it happens, and how to work with it)
- Supporting students to set achievable learning/study goals
- Supporting students to develop effective academic habits
- Supporting students to make progress on their end-of-term to-do list
- Connecting students with one another so that they can exchange tips and tricks
Programming runs for one week in early March each year and is designed to be accessible across many time zones in Canada.
All students from the participating universities and colleges are invited to register, for free. All events will take place on Zoom Events.
Become a Participating Institution
There are many options for becoming a participating institution in PAW, and thereby opening the week of programming for all students at your university or college.
The most common option is for a learning or writing specialist to propose a workshop, study session, or other program as a part of the week’s schedule. If you have developed an innovative program related to procrastination, student well-being, motivation, etc. at your institution, we would love the chance to feature it at PAW!
Other options for participation include:
- Hosting a study hall – silent or guided studying sessions for students attending PAW
- Acting as a lobby “host” in Zoom Events during the week of programming – responding to questions and directing students
- Joining the planning committee
If you are interested in becoming a participating institution, we would love to hear from you!
PAW Planning Committee
The PAW planning committee is made up of learning and writing professionals from universities and colleges across Canada. The planning team makes collective decisions to design and run the week of PAW programming.
Volunteering on the PAW planning team provides a valuable opportunity to gain experience with conference planning, including:
- Program development and scheduling
- Using online software, especially Zoom Events
- Marketing and communication support for participating institutions
- Event management
If you are interested in serving on the planning team, we would love to hear from you! We make every attempt to work on a mentorship model – allowing new planning team members to shadow and observe the work of an experienced committee member before taking on additional responsibilities.
